VIRTUAL FORMAT ISSUES

The virtual public meeting severely limited public participation on Tuesday, August 12th. The process was inefficient for listeners and confusing for many who tried to ask questions or share comments. Some attendees were not provided a mute/unmute button on their screens, which prevented them from speaking at all. This format ultimately benefited the applicant, not our community.

KEY TAKEAWAYS FROM THE MEETING

TCEQ stated that they do not consider the permit application—filed in 2025 after the successful Motion to Overturn in November 2024—as a new application. Instead, they treat it as a continuation of the original 2024 filing. This means new circumstances—such as a permanent residence now located within the 440-yard distance—are being ignored because they occurred after the original filing date.

Key concerns raised during the meeting included:

  • Is there an adequate water supply for the required water suppression?

  • Were dust emissions from the existing sand and gravel business evaluated?

  • What roads will be used for trucks entering and exiting the site?
