Overview

A permanent concrete crushing facility will permanently affect air quality in Grayson County. The Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) will approve or deny the facility a permit based only on air quality.

What is the air permit?

“The Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ or commission) issues an air quality standard permit for rock crushing and concrete crushers. This standard permit is applicable to all rock crushers that process nonmetallic minerals or a combination of nonmetallic minerals at quarries, mines, aggregate handling facilities, concrete recycling sites, etc., on a permanent basis and meet the conditions of this standard permit.” —Texas Commission on Environmental Quality

What will determine if the permit passes?

“The general public often expresses concerns with crushing sites and operations that include, but are not limits to, traffic safety, noice, appearance, and property values. These types of concerns are not addressed under the Texas Clean Air Act and are beyond the commissions’ jurisdiction. Those concerns of the general public regarding nuisance dust, ambient air quality, and potential adverse health impacts are the focus of the protectiveness review and the resulting conditions of the standard permit.” —Texas Commission on Environmental Quality [emphasis added]
